FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THETA CHI ANNOUNCES 2014/2015 ALTER AWARD RECIPIENTS
AUGUST 24TH - Carmel, IN - Theta Chi Fraternity is excited to announce the final round of 2014/2015 recipients of the Howard R. Alter, Jr. Award for Chapter Excellence. Two Chapters were recognized during the Kappa Class of the Initiative Academy, held July 23-26, 2015 in Bloomington:
The Alter Award is Theta Chi’s highest chapter honor and is traditionally presented at the Fraternity’s summer event. Consideration for the Alter Award is by application only. Applicant chapters are evaluated based on their performance in 12 categories, including recruitment, scholarship programming, risk management practices, member and new member education and others. The Alter Award may only be presented to active chapters.
Recipients:
Epsilon Kappa/Idaho with their 5th consecutive, and 10th overall Alter Award.
Iota Lambda/Longwood with their 5th Alter Award since their 2007 installation.
Recognizing that receiving the Alter Award can be a very special and meaningful experience for the undergraduates, additional recipients will be announced at the remaining session of this summer's Initiative Academy. This is done in order to accommodate the unique format of The Initiative Academy. In doing so, the Fraternity is able to ensure that a representative from each winning chapter is present to receive the award in person.
Created by a group of former field staff in 1984 upon the occasion of Howard Alter’s retirement as Executive Director, the Alter Award was first presented in 1986 to chapters that met or exceeded the Fraternity’s standards of excellence.
Five chapters received the Chapter Achievement Award during the Awards Ceremony. This award recognizes and encourages chapters that apply for the Alter Award and demonstrate substantial success, progress, and improvement in chapter operations:
Phi/North Dakota State
Chi/Auburn
Gamma Theta/San Diego State
Delta Eta/Colorado State
Epsilon Psi/NJIT
Eight additional chapters were recognized with Chapter Excellence Awards for demonstrating strong performance in specific areas of chapter operations:
Epsilon/WPI
Omega/Penn State
Alpha Mu/Iowa State
Alpha Nu/Georgia Tech
Alpha Phi/Alabama
Beta Theta/Drexel
Delta Gamma/West Virginia Wesleyan
Delta Omega/Ripon College
We offer our heartfelt congratulations to all recipients and urge all chapters to apply for chapter awards next year. The deadline will be April 10, 2016.
