Willis “Rick” Conner is the chief executive officer of American Structurepoint , a nationally recognized multidisciplinary engineering and architectural firm. Rick’s vision and leadership have helped build one of the Midwest’s leading consulting firms, advancing both civil engineering and comprehensive consulting engineering.
At 16-years-old, Rick began working part-time as an apprentice drafter at American Consulting Engineers, the firm that later became American Structurepoint. This led Rick to enroll at Purdue University where he majored in civil engineering. During his time at Purdue, Rick was an active member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. Rick joined the firm full-time upon graduating from Purdue in 1976, working in the bridge department.
In 1983, Rick was promoted to vice president and became an owner in 1987. Since 1990, when he became president of American Structurepoint, Rick has grown the firm from fewer than 50 employees and $3 million in annual revenue to a firm with more than 800 employees, achieving a 2025 revenue of $228 million. In 2024, Rick became American Structurepoint’s chief executive officer. Rick’s innovations include expanding the firm into Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida. He launched new service lines, including Investigative, Architecture and Interiors, Information Technology, Traffic Engineering, and Planning and Economic Development.
In 2025, Rick received the prestigious ENR Midwest Legacy Award for his lifetime service to the engineering industry and was named to the Indiana 250 list by IBJ Media in 2025 and 2026, which recognizes the state’s most influential business and community leaders. Rick’s career legacy extends far beyond infrastructure. He has helped shape futures, mentored the next generation of engineers, and invested in the communities he serves. More importantly, Rick’s passion lies in improving the quality of life for people through service, leadership, and education.
A proud Purdue University alumnus, Rick has remained deeply committed to giving back to his alma mater. Through his leadership on the Purdue University School of Civil Engineering Advisory Council, involvement with the President’s Council, and support of the John Purdue Club, he has helped strengthen engineering education, advance student opportunities, and cultivate future industry leaders. His dedication to mentorship extends beyond the university through active leadership and service with professional organizations and community groups, including the American Council of Engineering Companies of Indiana, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Rotary Club of Indianapolis, the Riverview Health Foundation, and several civic organizations throughout Indiana.
