Kentucky's Got Talent Raises Money for UK's DanceBlue

LEXINGTON, Ky. (10/11/13) – Two University of Kentucky Greek organizations hosted a talent competition Thursday night to raise funds and awareness for UK's DanceBlue.

Theta Chi and Kappa Kappa Gamma coordinated the second annual Kentucky's Got Talent, a competition where student organizations enter a musical act to compete and raise money for the year-long student run philanthropy.

DanceBlue is a fundraising effort that culminates into a 24-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon on campus. All money raised goes to the Golden Matrix Fund, which works to support cancer research at the Markey Cancer Center and social support at DanceBlue KCH Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic.

“Both of our organizations really really help, and like to help out the kids and raise money,” said Michael Danahy, a Theta Chi and one of the event's organizers. “We were just trying to further our efforts, and make sure everything went well, as smoothly as it could.”

Kappa Kappa Gamma's student organizer Maureen Neal said DanceBlue is always looking for different and new fundraising options. She added this event was a fun way to incorporate fundraising through competitive spirit.

“Especially because all of UK's campus cares so much about DanceBlue, it was just an easy option for us to support that,” said Neal. “I was thrilled with the way that it turned out, and I'm sure that we will definitely still be supporting DanceBlue in the future for this event.”
