Childrens Hospital, a satirical comedy created, written, produced, and directed by Rob Corddry, Theta/Massachusetts 1993, which appears on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, has been nominated for an Emmy for the second year in a row. This parody of popular medical dramas received its second nomination in the category of Outstanding Special Class – Short-format Live-Action Entertainment Program. The show took home the Emmy last year, and is said to be the favorite of this year’s nominations.
Originally a series of webisodes on TheWB.com - and later picked up by Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, Childrens Hospital is filmed in a format of 11-12 minute episodes which focus on the staff of a hospital. The cast of characters are actors portraying characters in a television medical drama – a show within a show - in which Corddry portrays Cutter Spindell who is the character Dr. Blake Downs. Dr. Downs performs his daily physician duties wearing clown makeup and surgical scrubs which are painted red with "blood": Dr. Downs believes in the healing power of laughter. Corddry's character had a shocking development at the end of season 4 - which will make the start of season 5 (July 25, 2013) highly interesting.
The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented 8 p.m. (EST), Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, on CBS Television Network.
