While still sporting their university’s colors and logos, brothers from across the country witnessed the International nature of Theta Chi Fraternity as they gathered at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, for the two sessions of the Initiative Academy in 2023.

The Initiative Academy is part of the Resolute Man Event Track, focusing on leadership development, professional development, and the Assisting Hand. At its core, the sole purpose of the event curriculum is to help collegiate brothers discover their leadership strengths and weaknesses, learn how to better communicate within their respective leadership styles, and to further expand upon on their individual problem-solving abilities through team building.

In addition to the personal development curriculum, professional development exercises such as mock interviews, conversations about successful networking, and resume building tips and tricks were also included.

The fraternity experience has always served as an opportunity for men attending college to find a sense of belonging, find renewed purpose, and springboard themselves further along into personal and professional growth during their four years of undergraduate study. Being able to surround themselves with other men in their age bracket who are searching for the same things in life allows them to flourish better together than they would if they were alone.

"This was my first International Theta Chi event. It was extremely fun to meet all the awesome guys but also a powerful reminder that Theta Chi is larger than just my chapter. This hit especially hard since my chapter at Long Beach State is not very close to many other Theta Chi chapters. It’s a whole summer’s worth of experiences and friends in four days. I’ve never had so much fun while being highly productive. It was everything you could expect from 80 brothers in one house, with all the professionalism you would hope for," said Kirk Lindbeck (Zeta Epsilon/Long Beach State 2024).

Alumni volunteers were also present to serve as both facilitators for the Initiative Academy curriculum and also as a sounding board for the development of our collegiate attendees.

"I volunteer because it is my way of living the motto of Theta Chi: ‘an Assisting Hand.’ My fraternity experience helped shape who I am as a leader, brother, employee, and human. I want to be able to help provide that same life-changing experience to those who are collegiate brothers today. My favorite part of the experience is watching the men grow in their personal and professional development skills over the entire weekend. It is also amazing to watch young men come together from across the country with different backgrounds and experiences to share ideas and build lifelong friendships," said Brandon Majmudar (Delta Eta/Colorado State 2016).

Theta Chi hosted 115 attendees representing 70 chapters, two colonies, and one interest group. As they transition into the 2023/2024 academic year, they will take their first steps on campus as Resolute Men.
