Today we share the following In Memory of Theta Chi Co-Founder, Arthur Chase, who passed away 125 years ago today, on November 20, 1888.
After graduating from Norwich in 1856, Brother Chase attended Harvard Law School and earned a Bachelor of Law degree. He married Garafelia Davis in 1863 and helped to train soldiers during the Civil War. In 1868 he purchased and edited a local newspaper - "The National Eagle", and a few years later became a farmer. He was always a power in his community. At one time he was superintendent of public schools and was also very active in his church and diocese.
Chase maintained an active interest in Theta Chi throughout his life. He died at age 53, living scarcely beyond middle life. It was said, however, that he lived more in 50 years than most men did in 70.
On November 26th, 1888, brothers of Alpha Chapter drafted a resolution commemorating Brother Chase. A scan of this resolution is shared below. May we all remember Brother Chase and uphold his legacy!
