Officer Andrew Bauman, Iota Kappa (2008), was presented with the Meritorious Service Award by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for his efforts to subdue a subject seen striking an unknown male in the head repeatedly with a large rock. Bauman attempted to control the situation, but was struck in the head by the suspect and rendered unconscious. When Bauman regained consciousness, the subject was on top of him and striking him with the rock. Despite numerious lacerations, Bauman was able to fight off the suspect with the assistance of arriving officers. For his heroic actions, he was also awarded the Purple Heart for risking his own personal safety in order to save a human life.
In addition, Bauman also had the honor of accepting the "Who's Your Hero" award during the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open golf event in October.
