Sorry- the application deadline has passed.
Theta Chi is looking for brothers who can teach and inspire undergraduate leaders at this summer's School of Fraternity Practices.
This year’s Convention and SFP, themed "The Road to Success Starts Here," promises to be the best yet. As in the past, our faculty will be composed of alumnus volunteers who are knowledgeable of and passionate about Theta Chi’s rich traditions, history and current progress. SFP faculty members will help train and guide a new generation of undergraduate leaders.
If you are interested in serving in this very important capacity, you are strongly encouraged to submit a faculty application. This year’s application deadline is Sunday, January 29, 2012. Please email your completed application to sbennett@thetachi.org.
Who is designing the curriculum for the School of Fraternity Practices?
A Convention Planning Task Force has been appointed to oversee the design and planning of this year’s event. Although the schedule has not yet been completed, the task force has already outlined the learning outcomes and topics that will be covered. In keeping with the spirit of the School of Fraternity Practices, most of the educational topics will remain focused on chapter and fraternity operations.
What is the role of the SFP Faculty?
Faculty members will each lead at least two breakout sessions and perhaps facilitate small group discussions. Faculty members may also be asked to lend a helping hand with additional small projects as well.
Who is eligible to be a facilitator?
All Regional Counselors, alumni and staff are all eligible to serve as faculty.
Who will select the faculty?
The Convention Planning Task Force will select this year’s faculty. We will do our best to assign educational topics based on areas of expertise and experience.
What is the task force looking for in potential faculty members?
We are seeking individuals who can masterfully teach chapter operations and inspire fraternity leadership. In addition, faculty should have experience facilitating groups and helping students make deeper meaning of the Convention experience.
When will Faculty announcements be made?
Final announcements will be made on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012.
How will faculty be trained?
Faculty will be asked to create their own outlines and resources for breakout sessions. The International Headquarters staff will provide resources and assistance on a case-by-case basis.
After being selected, all faculty members will participate in at least two conference calls prior to arrival in Palm Springs.
In addition, facilitators must arrive in Palm Springs by 4 p.m. (PDT) on Tuesday, July 3, in order to participate in the faculty appreciation dinner and faculty training on Wednesday. Faculty will depart Palm Spring on Sunday, July 8.
Financial package
As a way to say “thank you” to the volunteers who serve as faculty, the Grand Chapter has established a School of Fraternity Practices Expense Plan that will help relieve the financial burden of attending the Convention.
Per those guidelines, Theta Chi will cover the costs of the Registration Fee, lodging for five nights (Tuesday thru Saturday), and airfare for each faculty member. The breakdown is as follows:
- Registration fee: $320
- Shared hotel room for 5 nights: $390
- Estimated Airfare to Palm Springs: $400-500
- Total provided by the Fraternity: $1,110-1,210
The registration fee will cover the cost of food at the faculty appreciation dinner, the 4th of July celebration, alumni luncheon, and closing banquet. In addition, faculty will receive event souvenirs.
Volunteers not selected as faculty
Those who apply but who are not selected to serve as faculty will be responsible for their own event registration fees, transportation, lodging, and food expenses not included in the registration fee.
Grand Chapter candidates
Brothers who have been or will be nominated as candidates for the Grand Chapter are eligible to serve as faculty. Per the Convention expense policy adopted by the Grand Chapter, Grand Chapter nominees selected for faculty will not be eligible for reimbursement of expenses and will be expected to personally pay the event registration fee, transportation, lodging, food expenses, and all other expenses associated with attending the School of Fraternity Practices and National Convention.
