Theta Chi Fraternity proudly returned to Edinboro with the recolonization of Eta Zeta on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. on campus in Compton Hall.

The 11 recolonizing members include: Logan Abbey (2026), Ayden Bailor (2028), Tyler Brown (2027), Garrett Hamm (2025), Sean Mitcho (2025), Alex Ola (2024), Zach Redmond (2027), Matthew Shollenberger (2027), Jake Stahl (2026), Joshua Weaver (2025) and Martin Zupanchick (2028).

The CAB consists of Ronald Kibbe (Eta Zeta/Edinboro 1981), Rev. Drew Himes (Zeta Lambda/Westminster 2009), James Abbey (Eta Zeta/Edinboro 1992), and Douglas Sestock (Eta Zeta/Edinboro 1994).

Eta Zeta's return began when Eta Zeta alumni reached out to International Headquarters staff regarding student interest in restarting Theta Chi. Next, Director of Growth Sam Terry connected with Edinboro student affairs staff in the spring and summer of 2024, who were incredibly excited at the return of Theta Chi to their campus, and gave full permission to proceed with expansion.

Upon learning they would need a minimum of 10 members to be considered for recolonization, the members of the interest group began to recruit new members from within their personal networks. Sam first met with (now-Colony President) Logan Abbey virtually, add Logan proudly reported that they had assembled 11 men interested in restarting Theta Chi at Edinboro.

Since their approval for recolonization in May 2024, the men have worked tirelessly planning for the 2024/2025 academic year, and have coordinated a rush week, set goals for philanthropy and Sacred Purpose, and attended the 168th Anniversary Convention & 41st School of Fraternity Practices in New Orleans.

International Vice President Alan Copeland addressed the men before and after the ceremony, explaining the significance of the new responsibility placed on them as pledges and as colony members looking to become a chapter.

A very special moment took place when Eta Zeta alumnus Jim Abbey (1992) pinned his son, Logan, during the ceremony and saw him named as the President of the new Eta Zeta Colony.

"I'm incredibly proud of the men of Eta Zeta Colony for their dedication and hard work. Supported by an incredibly engaged alumni network, they have achieved a lot already and I’m excited to see the great strides they’ll continue to make as we move toward reinstallation. The future is bright for these men as they begin living out the ideals of Theta Chi.” - Director of Growth Sam Terry

"I'm looking forward to building a better structure than we've had before, making our alumni proud, and having something I can come back to as an alumnus that I know I built from the ground up with my fellow brothers." - Colony President Logan Abbey
