Alumni from Epsilon Delta Chapter at Youngstown State University returned to their alma mater over the weekend to celebrate the naming of the Theta Chi Computer Lab, located on the second floor of the Kilcawley Center, YSUs student union. The brothers raised more than $100,000 in pledges and donations, which will be applied toward future renovations at Kilcawley.
Fundraising efforts began in October 2011 with the launch of an e-mail campaign. Brothers Paul Perantinides (Epsilon Delta/Youngstown State 1966) is credited with starting the effort, and was assisted by fellow brothers Paul Zaffaroni (1969) and Angelo Ford (1969).
The lab is adorned with three framed collages depicting Theta Chi brothers from the 1960s and early 1970s, and will soon feature a plaque recognizing donors who contributed $1,000 or more to the campaign as well as brothers who had passed away. A formal proclamation issued by the Universitys board of directors was read and framed copies were presented to Brothers Perantinides, Zaffaroni and Ford. More than 50 Epsilon Delta alumni and University officials were in attendance.
The naming of the lab coincided with Epsilon Deltas annual alumni reunion, typically held during the third weekend of July in the Youngstown area. The weekend kicked off on Thursday with a golf scramble at nearby Kensington Golf Club.
After Saturdays ceremony, the festivities moved to the Mill Creek Golf Course for a Saturday golf scramble. On the 18th hole, the brothers held a memorial for Jim Jaybird Dwyer (1970), who was remembered by his chapter brothers as a gifted storyteller and an important link between many people in and outside of the Fraternity. A plaque will be placed at the 18th hole in his memory.
The alumni weekend wrapped up with the traditional dinner at the Stonebridge Grill and Tavern, owned by Epsilon Delta alumni Bob Stevens (1970) and Thomas Case (1973).
