Eight members of Alpha Pi Chapter at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Mitch Andreasen (2018), Robert Chandler (2018), Zach Wallace (2018), Steven Cordes (2016), Carl Stone (2018), Jake Sherman (2016), Sam Riley (2016), and Chris Patterson (2018), participated in the Twin Cities Marathon held Oct. 4, 2015, in Minneapolis, MN.
For the eight brothers who ran the Twin Cities Marathon, many were first-time marathoners. It took great endurance and perseverance, but it was a rewarding experience for the runners. “I ran an average of eight miles a day since the spring,” said Mitch Andreasen, sophomore at Alpha Pi and marathon participant.
The Alpha Pi marathon crew used the race to help a charitable cause, raising a total of $1,386 for Team World Vision, the largest non-government provider of clean water in the developing world.
The Twin Cities Marathon was a challenging trail for the brothers, but all successfully completed the 26.2 miles and have learned much from the experience.
Alpha Pi chapter was not yet done running, and they used the Naval ROTC 5K as another chance to stay active and raise money for philanthropic causes.
The Naval ROTC Eagle and Anchor 5K held Oct. 10, 2015, in Minneapolis, was organized to raise funds for the NROTC on campus. The donations and support that the Naval ROTC received from participants was used to pay for professional training on military bases, competitions against other ROTC units throughout the nation, and new equipment. In continuing our alliance with USO as our National Philanthropy partner, we decided to participate in this event and due to having the largest number of participants received a $300 award, which will be used for philanthropic causes.
