The Fraternity’s Maxim, “Alma Mater First and Theta Chi for Alma Mater,” is used to emphasize that Theta Chi members are to be loyal to their alma maters, both as students and as alumni. As students, the greatest loyalty to alma mater is shown by excelling in academic work.
The Grand Chapter Scholarship Award, also referred to as the Stanford Trophy, is presented each year to the chapter with the most outstanding academic record for the previous calendar year. The award is represented by a trophy which was given to the Grand Chapter by Alpha Epsilon Chapter at Stanford University in 1928. The Stanford Trophy winner is determined by comparing the chapter GPA to the campus all men’s average. Since some campuses measure grades outside of the traditional 4.0 scale, a formula is utilized to properly gauge academic performance for each chapter and to determine a winner.
