THETA CHI FRATERNITY HOSTS INAGURAL PRESIDENTS RETREAT
AUGUST 10TH 2015 – CARMEL, IN – Last weekend, leadership from 50 chapters met in Carmel, IN for the inaugural Summer Presidents Retreat. The day began at 9 a.m. with a briefing from Executive Director, Mike Mayer, and continued with a number of breakout and general sessions until 8 p.m. Along with the scheduled training, attendees had the opportunity to meet one on one with members of the International Headquarters Staff and address chapter specific items.
The retreat also served as a great opportunity for undergraduate leadership to become acquainted with the Field Executives that will be visiting later this year. Breakout sessions discussed recruitment strategies, new member programming and risk management policies and procedures. The general sessions included leadership, tackling tough choices, the current Greek landscape and Title IX.
“The Summer Presidents Retreat should become a tradition,” explained Kurt Owen (Iota Theta/Central Florida 2015). “It left me reinvigorated with a passion for leading my chapter, and for Theta Chi,” he said.
National Marshal, Tait Martin, flew in from Tallahassee, FL for the day’s keynote on social media. “I am always honored to spend time with our chapters’ top leadership,” said Martin. “The new summer presidents’ retreat was a great way to strategize, reconnect with brothers and recharge batteries for the upcoming school year. After spending a time with our leaders at IHQ, I am confident that the future of Theta Chi is in good hands.” In addition to illustrating the lack of privacy online, Tait offered strategies for growth through social media, as well as understanding and maintaining a positive online identity.
“I’d consider the inaugural Summer Presidents Retreat a great success,” explained Associate Executive Director Ray Vanlanot. “It’s an event with a lot of room to grow and improve upon as we look to the future.”
