Theta Chi Fraternity Announces 2015/2016 USO Fundraising and Service Award Recipient

Carmel, IN – Theta Chi Fraternity is proud to announce Iota Sigma Chapter at Towson University as the winner of the inaugural USO Fundraising Award and USO Service Award. Both awards were presented to the chapter on July 24, 2016 during the 160th Anniversary Convention and 37th School of Fraternity Practices in Atlanta, GA.

In 2015 Theta Chi Fraternity launched a friendly competition between chapters known as “Operation Military Red.” The competition tracks the dollars raised and the hours served in support of the USO.

Two separate recognitions were developed for Operation Military Red: The USO Service Award and the USO Fundraising Award. As the name suggests, the USO Service Award is presented to the chapter that commits the highest number of combined service hours to the USO in a given academic year. Similarly, the USO Fundraising Award is presented to the chapter that raises the most money for the USO in a given academic year.

Through an initiative entitled “G.I. Theta Chi”, the Iota Sigma Chapter hosted a weeklong series of fundraisers and events, ending with a competition day of relay races, obstacle courses, and other team based activities. Inclement weather forced the group to cancel one of the week’s events and move the primary competition day inside. Due to diligent planning and foresight, the chapter still managed to host the most successful event of the year, being recognized by their university for outstanding philanthropic programming though G.I. Theta Chi. With $19,336 raised and 1,616 hours served, Iota Sigma Chapter truly went above and beyond in their dedication and support for the USO.

In total, Theta Chi chapters reported raising $302,937 during the 2014 – 2016 biennium, with 41,371 man hours in volunteer service.

In 2013 Theta Chi Fraternity embarked on its first ever philanthropic partnership with the United Service Organizations, commonly known as the USO. For 75 years, the USO’s mission has been to strengthen America’s military by keeping them connected to family, home, and country throughout their service to the nation. Theta Chi is proud to have partnered with such an outstanding organization and looks forward to continuing and strengthening our partnership in the years to come.

Founded in 1856, Theta Chi Fraternity is a men’s collegiate fraternity with more than 180,000 initiated members and has established 235 chapters. Leadership development, personal development, and service to alma mater are fundamental to Theta Chi Fraternity’s mission.
